We are a SPAM-Free host. Any customer found sending mass e-mails which do not fall within the guidelines outlined in our AUP and/or is obviously sending unsolicited e-mails will have their account disabled or deleted immediately, without advanced warning or refunds. We strictly enforce our AUP with regards to SPAM, so don’t do it! We may also impose cleanup and administrative fees relating to spam.
Now, what can you do about incoming SPAM? We have a few suggestions to help minimize SPAM and to report spammers to their ISP’s and web hosts. While it’s not technically “illegal” to send spam in most states, it is more than likely a violation of the spammers ISP and/or web host’s Authorized Use Policy (AUP) and/or Terms of Service (TOS). Many spammers have begun quoting laws regarding the sending of e-mail. Regardless of laws, the spammer is most likely in direct violation of their ISP’s AUP and can still have their accounts canceled.
Subscribe to Spamcop (http://www.spamcop.net). Free and paid subscriptions are available. Spamcop will automatically identify and notify ISP’s and web hosts of spammers. Use the Change Processing Rules option in I Mail to automatically delete messages from known spammers. You can delete mail based on several variables.
Configure filters in your e-mail client to automatically transfer any known spam to the trash.
We do allow mailing lists to be operated on our servers. However, we do ask that certain guidelines be followed so that your mail will not be classified as SPAM. We reserve the right to determine what is classified as SPAM, relating to all e-mail originating from or referencing sites on our network. If you have questions, please ask.
Allow recipients to unsubscribe via an automated system. It should be easy to allow users to unsubscribe automatically. It is very easy to provide this function through cgi, Cold Fusion and ASP scripts.
Never purchase lists of e-mail addresses. Sending mail to such lists will probably result in many complaints (and more than likely your account suspended or canceled). Most lists include addresses which were “harvested” from web sites and newsgroups without the owner’s permission. Provide accurate contact information and use real e-mail addresses in all your mailings. Make sure all recipients know why they are on your list. Most mailing list programs allow you to add a footer to each message which can be used to explain why they are on the list. Make sure every user on you list specifically requested to be added. We would advise against automatically adding people to a mailing list just because they placed an order with you, etc. Specifically ask them to join your lists.
